Papermaking with Carol

Workshop to commence at 9 a.m. finish at 2.30. Tuesday 23 April.

To be held at Artworks under the big roof. Maximum 6 participants.

Papermaking using plant material as well as waste paper.

The process begins by taking bullrush and pampas grass leaves/fronds and boiling in a caustic solution until soft.

The material is then rinsed, and blended into a pulp from which to make sheets of paper.

The preparation of the leaves and fronds will be done prior to the workshop, this could form the basis of a further

Workshop if desired.

Waste white office paper will be soaked in hot water and blended prior to workshop.

Participants will need to bring a board a little larger than an A4 sheet of paper to put the made sheets on to take home to dry

Between each cast sheet of paper you will need a couching cloth, (I use old woolen blankets).

A substitute will do, but make sure it is not too thin, these couching cloths need to be at least the size of the board you will bring.

Paper making molds and decals will be supplied for use at the workshop, including an envelope decal.

A plastic apron and rubber gloves is suggested but not compulsory if you don’t mind getting wet.

If you have any pressed leaves, petals or blossoms or other items, please bring them to incorporate into your paper sheets.

I will bring an assortment of embellishments for you to choose from.

Bring Your own Lunch, Tea/coffee facilities provided

Fee: $20 p/p
