Artworks Volunteers received a boost with SDRC Community Grant funding $2000

The funds went towards the purchase of 2 IPads and keyboards for the Secretary and Treasurers’ use. Our volunteers are priceless and we treasure their commitment to the community in all that they do. Thank you SDRC for helping us to make their tasks a little easier.

Our own ‘Tin Town’ Photographer

Sandra McEwan together with Paula Boatfield, launched a tremendously popular photographic book recently. The book represents a pictorial travel through 150 years of Stanthorpe history it is the culmination of over 3 years all-consuming work.

Since the official launch the volumes have been flying off the shelves and another print is going to press soon. Sandra relates how locals have embraced this work with enthusiasm and further offers of material, so she is not ruling out a second volume just yet, but it is obvious that Sandra is now looking forward to being able to relax a bit more and spread her wings in different directions again.

The original spark of an idea grew from a fellow photographer and was nurtured by close friends who encouraged Sandra to depict the progress of our town by photographing scenes and characters from the past and matching them with similar scenes today – it was a massive photographic, sorting and editing task. Sandra was greatly assisted by Paula who had some previous editorial experience.

As hey sourced material from the Granite Belt’s past, word spread, and the community contacts eagerly passed on information. The magnitude and quality of the finished project is a tribute to  both Sandra and Paula.

Every school in the district will receive a copy during the next school term – it will be a valuable resource and a fitting tribute to our shared beginnings here on the Granite Belt.

Artworks is very proud to congratulate Sandra as one of our members on this marvellous achievement.

Copies of ‘Tin Town’ are available from the Stanthorpe Visitor Information Centre.
